Ericsson and China Telecom launch open IoT platform

China Telecom and Ericsson have launched a global connection management platform to support China’s “One Belt One Road” strategy and make further advancements in the deployment of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and services.

Powered by Ericsson’s Device Connection Platform (DCP), the platform, called the China Telecom IoT Open Platform, offers enterprise customers reliable connectivity based on service-level agreements and a common, unified overview of devices and access networks.

Using the China Telecom IoT Open Platform, enterprises can deploy, scale and control the management of IoT devices through partnerships. The platform allows enterprises to integrate their business processes with China Telecom’s managed connectivity service for the implementation of reliable IoT solutions.

Ericsson aims to capitalise on the rapidly growing IoT market and extend the reach of its expertise by exploring the potential of IoT to its fullest by reinventing processes, creating new services, and capturing new revenue along with China Telecom. Ericsson’s DCP, launched in 2012, now support over 25 operators and 2,000 enterprise customers as part of Ericsson’s IoT Accelerator platform.

In 2016, Ericsson and China Telecom had signed a memorandum of understanding, initially covering a period of five years, to jointly build global IoT connectivity and offer one-stop global IoT connectivity service to enterprise customers through Ericsson DCP.
